This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in the historic East End of Houston where the culture is rich and the roots run deep. We have students from many different backgrounds that hail from all over the surrounding areas to attend our STEM program with a biotech/neuroscience focus. The future of medicine is quite literally in my classroom.

Our students are creative, active, and excited to learn new things.

As a campus, we strive to create a school where students with many different interests can flourish and excel.

My Project

I love to read. Teaching my students to love reading is the best part of my job.

Loving reading begins with loving the books you can choose from.

Research shows that when students are able to choose the books they read, they are more likely to enjoy reading and continue reading.

I want to give my students the ability to choose current, high interest books that will help turn them into lifelong readers. Graphic novels are an amazing way to get reluctant readers interested in reading. The books I've requested are all books that my students have asked me for.
