This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in the historic East End of Houston where the culture is rich and the roots run deep. We have students from many different backgrounds that hail from all over the surrounding areas to attend our STEM program with a biotech/neuroscience focus. The future of medicine is quite literally in my classroom.
Our students are creative, active, and excited to learn new things.
As a campus, we strive to create a school where students with many different interests can flourish and excel.
My Project
Reading is essential. Everyone knows that. However, reading doesn't have to be boring. I want to build my classroom library so that my students have lots of choices.
Research shows that a good classroom library has at least 1,500 books.
I currently have about half of that. My goal is to have at least 2,000 by the middle of next school year.
I've already seen such a huge difference in my students' reading ability, stamina, and comprehension. Giving them the time to read and choice in their reading material is essential. Please help me continue to fill my classroom bookshelves!
