My students need a great classroom library! I am setting up a brand new classroom and I have gotten a few used book donations, but I need to fill in the gaps.

My Students

The year just began for these brand new kindergarteners and they have already shown me so much of their personalities! I have some very shy, quiet kinders, and some very loud, out going kinders! We began the year by sharing how we all felt before the first day of kindergarten, then read “The Kissing Hand”. At the end of the day, we shared again, this time how we felt at the end of the day. My girl who began the day in tears and clinging to my side shared, I am SOOOO HAPPY!”

My Project

Kindergarteners come to school with a wide range of reading levels. Some students know a handful of letters, while others can already read 50 sight words. Providing a rich and varied library gives each of these students a chance to read every day in the classroom at their own reading level. Students in my classroom will read to themselves, read to each other, and listen to read alouds by me each day. With all it this reading, we need lots of books! No one wants to read the same few books over and over, and that does not give students a chance to progress. Help me fill our library!
