This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students are not great readers, but how will that ever change if they never open a book? A library in a school is essential. Browsing the shelves. Seeing what your friends are reading. Peeking at the unique covers. All of these different scenarios allow students to explore books and find one perfectly written for them.

A school needs a library filled with book choices almost as much as they need a cafeteria; each feeds the students in different but important ways.

Books in a school are essential. In my school, there are voracious readers, once in awhile readers, reluctant readers and even an aspiring librarian. I want my students to have the same opportunity as other more affluent schools. They should have a chance to browse the shelves and find a story that moves them, a graphic novel that inspires their creativity, a memoir they can relate too, but without a library finding these scenarios can never happen.
