Our school is a new public school for students throughout Canton, OH. We will attend school on a balanced calendar, so we will go to school 45 days on 15 days off from July-June. Then, we have a short summer break. We also have 1:1 technology and students have Spanish class daily. Our school is in an urban environment with 100% free and reduced lunch. My students and I are so excited to begin this adventure together.
Our school is a school of diverse learners with diverse needs.
My Project
While my school is very fortunate to have 1:1 technology, having additional center options available, such as file folder games, would be beneficial to enhance independent practice. This will help avoid technology burnout and assist students who learn in a variety of ways.
File folder games are engaging, hands-on, and can be used to help meet a variety of goals for my students.
In order to build confidence in math standards, especially for fact fluency, I want my students to have exposure to facts in as many forms as possible. If students are fluent in math facts, it opens up possibilities to all other math standards. I also want my students to be able to be able to practice a variety of reading and language arts skills. These games practice a variety of skills needed to pass the Ohio Third Grade Reading Guarantee. I specifically picked these Lakeshore games because they are intended for 2-3 grade students so they will be appropriate for my students all year long.
