Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students come from a rural area where we are 100% free lunch. Many of students come from a one parent home and are latch key kids. We have started a garden at my school and our child enjoy working in it. They enjoy planting and seeing what they are able to grow. Many have been able to taste what has came out of it also.
It is our plan on expanding the garden in order to send home what we harvest.
With this being said, our students work hard to get the plots prepared, irrigation ran to the rows, and keep the area beautiful. We are in need of seeds, plants, and starter kits in order to expand.
Our students want to help those in need of food. This is the way that we are able to do that. We will be able to help our students who need food for the weekend with more plots and more vegetables and fruits, we are able to reach more people. The students are able to take home produce that comes from our school garden.
This project will help our whole school community by giving them food for home. Not only will it help our children at school it will also help their whole family have produce at home.
Our project will reach far with giving to the families that are in need. With any extra produce, we will share with the rest of the community. We will give to the residents who surround us, along with the children’s weekend camp down the road.
As our community gives to us, we will also give back to them. It will teach our students that giving is rewarding, and helpful. It will have a lasting effect on them they can carry through adulthood.
