Help me give my students postcards and maps to learn about all 50 states.
This project expired on February 27, 2019.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students come from a low-income neighborhood in a blue-collar, low-income city. For a lot of them, school is their escape from reality. They are a large mix of Hispanic, African American, and Caucasian. I teach an inclusion classroom which means that my students are both regular and special education. These kids work so hard to get so very little. My job as their teacher is to allow them to get as much out of life as they possibly can.
One of the hardest things to teach young students is that there is a world outside of the people that they interact with on a daily basis. Some of them know that they have family in other states but how much do they really understand about this wonderful country that we live in?
I have signed up for a postcard exchange with teachers from all 50 states.
We send postcards to all of the other states telling them about our state as well as our class. In return we receive postcards about states that we might know nothing about.
I would like to get a few set of postcards to continue this postcard exchange and a US map to see where they came from. I will then post the cards on a bulletin board to refer to for the whole school year.
