My students need the Early Math Instant Learning Centers, mini lessons for writing, and the Foundational Skills Teaching Center for Common Core Standards for first grade.

My Students
Some students escape to the next grade level without the appropriate foundation. At some point, it is nearly impossible to catch up. Students that are not on grade level exhibit low self esteem which can affect a student's entire school career. The buck stops here. Dropping out is not an option...
The task that I am faced with this year is taking on a school where the previous district has been shut down completely.
As a neighboring district we have taken on the challenge. During the first few weeks of school the staff has noticed that these students are two and three grade levels behind. The low socioeconomic level of these students doesn't help. How can a student do his/her homework without electricity? How can a student listen to the lesson when his/her stomach is louder than the teacher? Hopefully, as a first grade teacher in a new environment I can be the vessel that can stop the cycle of poverty.
My Project
Requesting items such as the foundational skills teaching center for common core standards, will allow students to work in groups of four in order to build CVC words such as sun and fan in order to use their letter sounds to make words and create sentences thereafter. The early math instant learning centers will allow students to become familiar with skills such as graphing, measurement, estimation, and addition, therefore honing their ability to become the future bankers, researchers, and architects of tomorrow.
This project is of the utmost importance.
Donations to this request will ensure that these students will break the cycle and receive the foundation that they need to proceed to the second grade. This project will have a broad impact by making sure that students have a high self esteem about school and consider school as a wonderful place with various opportunities. Once students have a disdain for school, it is extremely difficult to change their mind.
