My Project
Last year, I was introduced to the concept of Self Active Play and it was revolutionary. Self Active Play is a designated time of about 15-20 minutes where students play by themselves. I put on calming music and students can choose from a variety of play items like those in this project. They pick a spot around the room and just play silently for the duration of the Self Active Play period. When students are given this opportunity, it calms their brains and nervous systems down and allows them to reach a "ready to learn" state in their brain. I want to begin implementing this daily in my classroom, but I do not have many options for students and with a bigger incoming class, I want to provide something for each student. Your donation will help me reach this goal!
When I first tried out Self Active Play with my students last year, I had a couple of my fifth graders tell me they hadn't played with Play-Doh in years.
This is what inspired me to make play a daily part of my fifth-grade classroom. Even though they are the oldest kiddos in our school, they're still kids and they need that playtime for their brains. Your gift will help these students unlock playfulness, creativity, focus, and fun in our classroom!
