Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have twenty-five creative students in my fifth-grade class. They are faced with many challenges, but they are so excited to learn and expand their thinking.

Our students come from a low-income community, with the majority receiving free lunch and breakfast at our site.

Students depend on our school for daily meals and caring relationships. Our community has a language barrier and the majority of our students are English learners. We also have a large community of migrant workers, where families are forced to move according to where jobs are available.

Students are now faced with a new set of challenges with the Covid-19 Pandemic. I can say that though my students are faced with these problems, they are so willing to learn. They are so motivated and excited about new projects.

My Project

My students have been challenged continuously this past year. There has been so much change in routine and life. Many families are suffering hardships with loss of employment and homes due to this pandemic.

With school starting in a "distance learning" manner and students being asked to learn from home with many distractions, I know that these art supplies will provide a sanctuary they can escape to.

I know my students will be very excited to receive these good quality art supplies including oil pastels and sketch pads that they would likely not otherwise be able to afford. I will give direct instruction on different techniques they can use to create their art. We will work on many projects with these supplies connecting academic curriculum with art.
