My Students
"Just living is not enough," said the butterfly, "one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower." Hans Christian Anderson
The best type of learning happens outside of textbooks and literature.
And when it comes to the life cycle, it must. My students live in an urban city and have very few opportunities to interact with Mother Nature. Bring in a project that will reconnect them to our natural world, a place that their lives so greatly depend on!
My Project
With this butterfly kit, my students will not only learn about the life cycle of a butterfly, they will also have a chance to witness the wonders of Mother Nature firsthand. They will study, question, and reflect on the miraculous changes in butterflies. They will compare and contrast the information they gather from textbooks and apply it to what they see in real life. They will learn to love and care for a living thing from its beginning stages and nurture it to adulthood. With this project, they will learn about the biology and science of a butterfly as well as witness a small replica of what the basic components of a life cycle is composed of.
This project will bring in a butterfly habitat, larvae, and necessary materials to provide the insects with a nutritious living environment.
It will also gift my class a graceful conclusion and an inspiring introduction to their next big stage in life as young adults.
