My Project

Next year, my students will embark on a year long unit titled Valley Naturalists. Along this journey, they will study plants and animals across the different ecosystems in the Wenatchee Valley. Students will utilize nature journaling, researching, writing, and art to communicate what they have learned in a collaboratively created Field Guide to the Wenatchee Valley.

My biggest hopes and dreams for this project are that students gain a deep connection to their natural surroundings.

They will be the experts on hikes and outdoor outings. The more they know about their surroundings, the more they will care to preserve them.

As a final project for this unit, students will create a field guide to the Wenatchee Valley. In order to create a high quality product, students will need access to high quality supplies such as water colors, water color pens, nature journals, and a book binding machine. These supplies will allow us to create quality field guides that can be sold in our local community, putting the profits towards a good cause for our local natural surroundings. Since student ownership is so important, students will research local organizations doing good for the Wenatchee Valley natural areas and decide upon one or two to donate our profits to.
