This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All students need motivation to not only do well academically, but to overcome social obstacles that may get in their way. Children will often have to make a difficult decision- behaving the correct way, or possibly behaving in negative way. This decision is common among Middle School students.
Rewarding students for positive behavior has become a school wide goal for our students.
With almost 2,000 students in our 6-8 Junior High School, it is imaginable that not all students display proper behavior constantly. However, we wish to instill positive morals within our students, and have found a program that does just that- PBIS. Positive Behavior Intervention Supports is a system in which our students are rewarded for their positive behavior. This program has many incentives, and we need to continue to reward our students in order to keep them on the right track!
My Project
We are requesting materials (potato/burlap sacks, cones, foam balls, and bean bag toss games) to be used in an end of the year Field Day related to PBIS. Unlike some events that are held by the PBIS committee, this Field Day will be enjoyed by all. Students will practice how to display sportsmanship as well as work as a team during various activities. They will learn how to come together as a class, cheer one another on, and celebrate the end of a school year in which they "Did The Right Thing", our school motto.
This project will make a difference in our school, as it is something that all students look forward to when May rolls around.
They are eager to be leaders, show off their skills, and be rewarded for their positive actions. Consistency is key, and if we continue to have this Field Day for our students (this will be our 2nd year!), they will remain true to the motto of "Doing The Right Thing" both inside and outside of the classroom, the ultimate goal!
