My students need equipment so that we can have fun and exciting games outside such as the parachutes and Tug-of-War Rope for our Field Days or just for everyday recess.
If you were to ask my students one thing they love about school, they’d most likely say that they love it when it’s PE day.
PE is a place where kids can go to exercise, play, run around, and just be kids!
Kids love it because they can exercise, talk with kids in other classes, and be active.
Learning how to play a wide range of sports is their favorite activities. But now, they can’t do that because we do not have the PE or Field Day equipment to teach them a wide range of sports. Our school was devastated by the flood waters from Hurricane Harvey. We are currently displaced and not able to attend school on our own campus. All of our PE and Field Day equipment was destroyed by the flood waters because the gym was the hardest hit portion of the school.
My Project
Our elementary school is currently holding school at another campus. Our floors are cement and our walls are plastic. Every year I plan a Field/Fun Day for our students. Along with our other PE equipment our Field Day equipment was also lost to Hurricane Harvey.
With this project, we can hopefully plan a FUN DAY for the school when we are able to go back to our campus.
In the past, we have used the whiffle balls, tees and bats for a whiffle ball tournaments for our 3rd - 5th grades. Kinder through 2nd grade love to play with the parachutes. Their favorite parachute activity is when we make tents. Around Halloween, we even tell scary stories and turn off the lights to make them think the ghost did it. We would use the scale for our Fitness Gram testing we do each year to determine how much the kids have grown from the previous year. It is always neat to see which kids have hit the biggest growth spurt. The Tug-of-War Rope is probably the biggest thing about our Field Day. The kids love to challenge each other on who's the strongest and which class is the best. My favorite is when the boys think they can beat the girls and the girls win.
Even though we will be in portable buildings it will be nice to back home for our school family. I'm hoping that being back on our home campus will help some of our kids who also lost their homes.
