This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from different walks of life. Some were born outside the U.S. without any knowledge of the English language while others were born here, but their English skills are still developing. They all share many commonalities. They are English Language Learners; they are excited to learn and they come to school with hope, enthusiasm, and an eagerness to learn.
I teach in an urban school where ninety-seven percent of students receive free breakfast and lunch.
In addition, they live in an area that is heavily populated and where there is a large volume of traffic. Although it is a struggle for them, they put forth all their energy in learning and building both their literacy and language skills.
My Project
My project includes many fidget tools that will help my students cope with coming back to school. It has been a tough start for them because many have never stepped into a classroom. Many are having a difficult time sitting and focusing and that is why I am asking for sensory materials that will help them cope in this new world.
Help me help my kids navigate their feelings and emotions to help them recognize and self soothe themselves in times of need.
I want to place these materials in individual bins that they can access whenever they feel overwhelmed or distraught.
