Fidgety First Graders Need Flexible Seating

My Students

My students are 6-7 year old children who attend a public school in Pleasant Hill. We are in the suburbs of Northern California with diverse, both ethnically and socioeconomically, group of families that attend our school. My first graders are energetic and happy students. All students are working on learning to read, write and master addition and subtraction.

They are a high energy group of kids who need to move around a lot.

They are eager to learn and work hard. We work hard daily to stay focused and engaged in learning. I encourage my students to discover the best learning environment for themselves to self motivate their learning and engagement.

My Project

Flexible seating allows for students to self monitor their learning through their personal choices. During independent work times my students are often standing or moving around while they are completing assignments. Students will be motivated to learn more and work harder while being comfortable and able to move while working.The wobble chairs will help my students engage in their learning and to be less disruptive to other students around them.

The wobble chairs and balance balls I have selected will help my students to choose their seating which will help them stay focused and engaged while learning.

These will be extremely beneficial for some students to get the wiggles out while learning.
