Fidgety First Graders Need Active Learning Stools

My students need six Learniture Active Learning stools to provide an opportunity to "wiggle" as they work to help them focus on their school work.

My Students

My students are 21st century learners. They love using technology in our classroom and I integrate it as much as possible into all of the subject areas. My students are a bunch of inquisitive learners.

I teach at a small neighborhood school with approximately 560 students.

We first opened our doors in 1950. Arts in education is a major emphasis on our campus. Our school's mission is to develop children into life-long learners as a result of a challenging curriculum, individualized instruction, high expectations, and a nurturing environment with parental and community involvement. My class is made up of 21 diverse students, from students with special needs to those who are identified as gifted and talented. I encourage my students to appreciate each other's differences as well as find similarities among each other. They are very active, creative, and enjoy learning.

My Project

I would like to keep my fidgety first graders on task by providing them an opportunity to sit on an active learning stool. I love that my students are so energetic but sometimes their little "motors" get in the way of their learning. I let them stand while they are working or work on the rug instead of the table, but that isn't always enough.

Providing my Firsties with an opportunity to be active and wobble while they work on an Active Learning Stool should keep my most energetic students comfortable and engaged.

My students will be able to have an outlet for their extra energy and fidget in an appropriate way while strengthening their balance and increasing their motivation and focus.

I plan on housing them at my guided reading table and students will have an opportunity to switch them for their traditional chairs during math, science, and all other subjects.
