Our second annual Glow Day was a huge hit! For two years in a row, Donors Choose funders have help me purchase the items I needed to celebrate my students on the last day of school as they get ready to \"Glow to Second Grade!\" \r\nMany items I was able to reuse, but some of the students' favorites were consumable. I am so thankful I was able to purchase additional supplies to decorate the room such as the streamers and balloons. Other materials were needed to participate in the stations such as the dry erase markers, highlighters, beads and pipe cleaners, bouncy balls and mini ducks. Finally, some items were purchased for the students to wear and take home such as the hats, bracelets and stickers. We had such a wonderful day! This year at Meet the Teacher, some of my students were so excited to meet me and were already looking forward to this year's Glow Day! I couldn't have done it without your support! Others were overjoyed to find a new series to choose from such as The Questioneers series and The Unicorn Diaries set. I don't have to wait for months to get approval to order items or hope that they might come in. Purchasing these odds and ends really helped my students and I end the year off well and have what we needed to begin the new school year. \r\nUsing our Cricut to personal our class cooler was a hit! My students know which one is ours and are so proud of it. The durability really helps when we take it out on the track for Field Day or field trips like when we go to the Zoo at the end of the year. The bandaids and other field trip supplies came in handy, too! We actually use them in our playground bag daily, too!\r\nI am so glad I had the Part-Part-Whole magnets at the beginning of the school year. It made teaching this concept much easier! The students love coming up to the board to manipulate the magnets. My students absolutely love listening to stories and these two were perfect additions to our class library.\r\nThe other supplies I look forward to using later this school year. By doing \"Scientist of the Week\" with my first graders, each student has the opportunity to choose an experiment, practice at home, and then perform the experiment for the class. They explain step by step and then their classmates get to ask questions and give compliments to the scientist. When they finish, they get to choose one of these National Geographic Kids science related books to keep. They are so excited not only to choose an experiment, but to learn from each other. This is a great way to get families involved, too. After, they are so proud and absolutely love choosing their science book as a reward for teaching the class. They immediately put their gloves, hats and scarves on (even though the temperature was in the 60's!). They even wore them after school on the playground where former students of mine immediately recognized their gifts and let them know that they, too, were once in my class. \r\nMany students continued to wear their gifts when the temperature lowered upon our return after Winter Break. This weekend the temperature dropped dramatically and school was even closed today due to the wintery mix and unsafe conditions to drive. Parents emailed me to let me know how thankful they were for these gifts! Students wore them as they played in the snow.\r\nThank you for your help and support in funding this project! In the state of Texas, it gets so hot, especially on these field trips!
