Fidgety Fifth Graders

My Students

I'm privileged to work with forty-four 5th grade Dual Language Immersion students. They spend half of each day with me, where we learn math, language arts, social studies, and reading.

My students are bright and eager to learn new things, however fidgety behavior distracts them from learning.

And for anyone that has worked with 5th graders- you understand they are full of enthusiasm and energy. Yet some get distracted, which prevents them from participating fully in our lessons through no fault of their own. Having Active Learner Stools will help these students become less fidgety with their hands and more focused on learning.

My Project

Doodling, tapping pencils, and playing with small toys- these are just a few of the things that I see everyday which distract my students. And they do it at almost no fault of their own- in our world today students just aren't given as many chances to move around throughout the day. This result in what I see from the front of the classroom- lots and lots of fidgeting.

These wiggle stools and inflatable exercise balls will give my students an opportunity to move in less distracting ways while learning.

I will be able to use these chairs to help each of my students individually on a rotating basis so everyone will be able to benefit from their addition to my classroom. Donating to my project will help my students get their wiggles out, while keeping their hands still and minds engaged.
