This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach at a school where all students receive free lunch and breakfast. Many of my students have experienced some sort of trauma in their short lives. I don't want the trauma they have experienced them to limit them in their lives. They are more than what has happened to them. They are hard workers that haven't always had the best opportunities in their life, and I want to help them succeed in school and beyond. My students really want to do their best every day.

My Project

These fidgets, including stress balls and Tangle, Jr. sets, will help my students be able to focus more in class. Many students that have experienced trauma need to regulate themselves. For some students, simply moving back and forth will help them with this. My students are very tactile and need to be able to hold on to things and fidget with them to get themselves regulated and ready for learning.

My students will be able to use the fidgets for a few minutes as needed, and then they will be able to continue with their learning.

This will help them make gains in the classroom both personally and academically. The items that I am wanting for my students are a variety of calming tools that they can use. One tool has liquid with colored bubbles, and this tool is used for student regulation. When the students are able to fidget with these tools, they are then able to regulate themselves and get the wiggles out so they are able to learn.
