Fidget to Focus

My students need 30 exercise balls with legs to sit on during class to help keep them focused while at the same time being able to fidget without distractions.

My classroom is full of energetic, eager, and caring students.

They are all passionate about learning but sometimes the demands of school, sports, extra-curricular activities, clubs, and challenges at home, can distract them from their learning. My school is a suburb of Indianapolis and my students come to me with lots of different backgrounds. Each student has a unique story, but they all have the same goal; to succeed. The staff at my school is amazing and will do anything and everything to make sure that goal is met for each student.

My Project

All people, especially kids, need to opportunity to move around and exercise. With the demands of school and lack of funding, arts programs have been cut and recesses have been shortened. Students are expected to sit for hours in the classroom each day and focus on their work. This is easier said than done. Throughout the day my students are given a lot of opportunities to move and choose other places to sit, besides their desks. We engage in brain breaks, but sometimes they need to sit at their seat and complete their work. This can be very difficult for a lot of students. They get up from their seats and move around the room, they stand up and fidget. If they were to have the requested exercise balls at their desks, they could fidget and move without losing focus on their work and without distracting those around them. This would help them to complete their work, but still be able to move and fidget if needed.

Donations will improve my classroom because it will make it a more kid friendly environment.

Kids need to move and having the exercise balls will give my kids that opportunity without taking time away from their academics. They will be able to fidget at their seat without bothering their neighbors or taking away from their school work. This will help them be more engaged and hopefully be more successful in school.
