Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

As a school counselor, I have the privilege of witnessing the incredible potential and unique qualities of each student I work with. One of the key resources that can greatly benefit our students is the inclusion of sensory fidgets in our counseling office.

The specific items we request, such as stress balls, textured fidget toys, and sensory putty, are designed to provide students with a tactile outlet for their emotions and energy.

These tools can make a significant difference in their learning by promoting focus, reducing anxiety, and enhancing self-regulation skills. For example, students who struggle with attention difficulties can use fidgets to channel their energy productively, ultimately improving their ability to engage in classroom activities and stay on task.

My goals for this project are multifaceted. Firstly, I aim to create an inclusive and accessible space within the counseling office where students feel comfortable exploring and utilizing various strategies to manage their emotions and behavior. By integrating sensory fidgets into our counseling sessions, we can teach students valuable coping skills they can apply in and out of the classroom.

What makes our students special is their resilience, creativity, and unique perspectives. Despite various challenges, they are determined to succeed and make positive life changes. By providing them with the resources they need, such as sensory fidgets, we empower them to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.
