Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach special education students from Kindergarten through Second Grade at a Title 1 school with over 80% of our students in the low income/high poverty category. My students are excited to learn and work hard in class. We need items that can help them stay focused during instruction!
This year because of Hurricane Maria, our school has welcomed many students from Puerto Rico.
These students need high interest and hands on materials to stay engaged in our lessons. Many times, due to language barrier, the students lose focus easily. Not only are these students working to learn a new language, many of them have difficulty in social situations! I want them to have all of the tools they need to be as successful as possible.
My Project
Many of my students have difficulty sitting still during classroom instruction times. We work to allow as much movement as possible for the students while they are still learning. The seat cushions will allow for greater movement when in seats or sitting on the carpet during whole group teaching.
The cycles will allow my student to cycle to success!
While students are using the cycles to channel some of their excess energy, they will be able to focus more during instruction and still participate fully. It's the best of both worlds! I have seen both used in other classrooms with great success and can't wait for my students to benefit.
