Help me give my students violins and violas to use in class and to take home on a regular basis to practice. These instruments will help them use practice strategies to become better musicians.
My students are absolutely amazing kids! Really! They are a very diverse population: African-American, Arabic, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Native American and several Slavic nationalities...many languages and dialects are represented. We are a true melting-pot population, which is approximately 750 strong. Because many of their homes are lead by a single parent, a grandparent, or a recent immigrant, 97% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch in our Title I School.
These children have a love for learning and just need the resources to help them succeed!
My 5th graders are ready to learn how to play their first ensemble instruments. They are excited and ready for this new adventure.
My Project
We began a string orchestra last year in our elementary school. My dream is to begin and grow an orchestra program in our community from the elementary school level up through the 12th grade. I now have a program in both of the elementary schools and will start a pilot program in the middle school in August. We are in need of several instruments to launch this grand endeavor! We will begin by adding violins, violas and then cellos.
Playing a musical instrument develops the brain in a fantastic way allowing it to process tasks/thoughts faster and at a different level of critical thinking.
Students need to belong to an activity that they can own and develop. Please consider supporting our ensemble with these instruments.
