This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work in a high school Special Education classroom populated by young adults with specific social-emotional and sensory input requirements.
Most of our students need to play with some sort of fidget toy to focus their minds, release energy, and cope with stress.
Unfortunately, many of them also have sensitivities to certain types of sensory stimulation—primarily the repetitive noises made by most fidget toys, which can not only be very distracting but can also trigger undesirable and disruptive behavior.
I originally purchased an ONO Roller for myself and I was so impressed with how much it helped me that I took it to work the next day so that my students could give it a go—it was a HUGE hit! I would love to be able to provide these as an option so that they may have a sensory outlet that does not disturb their peers.
