My Project
Adding Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Hooky to our 6th grade classroom library will give students the opportunity to experience books as both windows and mirrors. A mirror reflects the reader’s own life, helping them feel seen and understood. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is a fantastic mirror for students navigating friendships, family, and school struggles, offering humor and relatability that make middle school challenges easier to process.
These books act as windows into unfamiliar experiences, expanding perspectives and fostering empathy.
Hooky serves as a window into a magical world where sibling bonds, courage, and adventure shape the story. It allows students to explore fantasy while also learning about loyalty, resilience, and teamwork—skills that apply to real life.
By including these books in our 6th grade classroom library, we ensure students have access to stories that reflect their realities and broaden their horizons. Whether finding comfort in familiar situations or discovering new perspectives, these stories help students grow as readers and thinkers.
