Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are on the autism spectrum. I have been working with these students for the last 5 years. I love every second of it, They each come into my classroom with their own uniqueness, personality, and intelligence. At times, students on the spectrum have different needs. So it is up to me to try and help that particular student achieve his goal by making them feel as comfortable as possible. Whether they are frustrated or excited, these behaviors can be addressed in different ways. Some students like to hold a stress ball, or stand up from his desk and pace around for a bit, some like to rock back and forth. Each student has their own need and I try and make my classroom accommodating for each and every one of them.
My Project
If this provider gets funded, I will be able to add more accommodations for my students in the classroom. It’s difficult at times for students to sit all day, but If some students need the rocking back and forth in order to soothe them, these seats will work for them. Some students on the ASD spectrum have different needs. I have had students in the passed where they need to rock back and forth in order to help them deal with a frustration or an exciting moment. Many of these students are also non-verbal so if I can integrate these chairs into my class, they will already be available for them when they feel they need to use them.
