This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My bilingual students come from an underprivileged neighborhood with limited English proficiency, enduring many hardships. Hurricane Harvey flooded our school and also left some students homeless, but that didn’t stop my students from returning eager to learn and willing to do whatever it takes to demonstrate their learning. Most of my students have been part of the bilingual program since Pre-K, while others are new to our country and had little to no schooling where they came from. I’m amazed by my students’ enthusiasm in learning, willingness to help one another and hold each other accountable, so everyone learns!

My Project

Feng Shui (pronounced “fung shway”): examines how the placement of things and objects within it, affect the energy flow in the environment, and how these objects interact with and influence personal energy flow. The energy flow of my classroom affects how my students think and act, which in turn affects how well they perform. Help me create a cozy, organized and harmonious classroom for my students, conducive to learning. I'm requesting live plants to add to our classroom, two end tables to place some of the plants and a watering can. In addition, I want to incorporate a wind chime above the library corner and an oil diffuser. The school was built in the 50’s and we experienced flooding, so the oil diffuser will help remove the mildew smell the classroom currently has. The yoga mats are for students to sit on to complete their work using clipboards. My students will definitely be motivated to complete their work if given the option to sit on yoga mats. My students also need organization baskets for their library books and to store the yoga mats, clipboards and other items in the classroom.
