Feminism Viral Videos

My students need iPads to create videos related to activism for women’s rights.

My Students

Our scholars are 9th grade boys who are traditionally under served. We serve scholars with a range of abilities. The typical scholar in our class reads at a third grade level and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense. It is important for our scholars to have the opportunity to access the power tools of the 21st century.

We encourage our scholars to become both skillful in using technology and critical of how it gets used to disseminate, share and interpret information.

My Project

My students have been learning about the challenges and struggles that women often face and how they handle and get through them. For the last part of the gender inequality unit, my students will be asked to create videos about why feminism is important. The iPads will be used to help my students record and edit their videos that could potentially go viral and will be shown to their peers, on YouTube, Vimeo and other sites. This project will allow my students with the opportunity to stand up and address an important issue in society as well as help create change.
