This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

There has been an increase in the number of female students asking for and requesting feminine products during their menstrual cycles. Our nurse's office does supply our students with feminine pads only, but I have found that they are often not good quality and the girls are embarrassed to ask. Our nurse's office is shared between two schools and it is located in the main office across campus from the other school. This is now a question of access because these products that they need are not readily available nearby and cause embarrassment for many of these young ladies.

Many young ladies ask me directly if I have any supplies that they can have.

I know it is typically because they cannot afford them themselves. The majority of the female students come from a low socioeconomic background. In addition, they have to find me, get the supplies, go to the restroom, and then to the class which at times causes them to be late.

To help this situation, I have created "Period Carts" and placed them in the girl's bathroom, with tampons and pads. It started with one cart however that current bathroom is now the busiest bathroom on campus. By gaining more supplies, I can have the ability to place more period carts around campus.
