This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As teachers, sometimes we spend more time with the students than anyone else and we are able to see the needs that some of these students desperately need met. Some of my students are going through changes in their bodies.

We not only teach our students academic lessons but also life lessons like the importance of practicing basic hygiene routines.

In this low-income area, students are lacking basic needs such as maxi pads. We are charged with not only teaching them academic lessons but also life lessons and self-care. Personal hygiene is so important for all people but especially for our underprivileged students.

I had a student who did not have enough feminine hygiene supplies and her parents were sending her to school with adult pull-ups.

She was so embarrassed. This takes a toll on their social-emotional health and development. The girls at our school would feel comfortable and confident during their cycle to be able to have a steady supply of products easily available to them.
