This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach children aged birth to three, all of whom have visual impairments and some of whom have other special needs.

Infants with low vision need accessible books, made with high contrast colors and a variety of textures, to encourage them to explore with their hands as a precursor to learning Braille.

Teachers will hold a family workshop to teach parents how to make such books at home using material they find in the homes. The felt pages and textured material have been donated by a local women's group. Special glue is needed for the felt.
