My Students

My school is an exciting, warm and inquisitive place to be since the students make it so. By focusing on the Arts and making Science classes engaging and challenging,

My middle school students are the joy and laughter of my soul.

They constantly inspire me with their resilience, passion for learning, and drive to become successful, productive members of the world stage. By focusing on a growth mentality, these future adults are an inquisitive class of active learners who know that with consistent hard work, they can become anyone they want to be.

My Project

Middle school is a typhoon of emotions, challenges and change. The Chromebook serves as a doorway to the online community, connecting my students to others in the midst emotional and mental tumult of puberty, thus eliminating their feelings of isolation. The Chromebook will be used for students to access http://kidshealth.org, www.thetrevorproject.org<http://www.thetrevorproject.org> and bornthisway.foundation. These websites will inform students about coping with stress, anxiety, bullying, gender identity and sexual orientation issues. The Trevor Project addresses specific LGBTQ issues with a confidential hotline or chatline while kidshealth.org deals with body image, dating and social media stressors. The Born This Way foundation provides practical assistance for specific issues like PTSD and sexual, emotional, drug, alcohol abuse.

The weaving mats and Twisteez gives them a kinesthetic, calming and concrete outlet for their emotions, building resilience and empowerment.

The Chromebook, weaving mats and Twisteez help students develop skills to build resilience and relationship ties to others in their community.

Their school lives will be improved by feeling safe, happy and strong through digital journaling and soothing, emotion-expressing artwork.
