Feelings, Fun, and Friends: Learning Social Skills is a Blast!
My students need exciting materials and books to help them learn about emotions, feelings, and social expectations by using play characters, books and building toys.

My Students
My students come from an area of Detroit that is one of the lowest economic and highest crime rate areas. They live in subsidized housing and all of my students receive free breakfast, lunch and snack while at school. They are also amazing, inquisitive, optimistic and fun individuals that make each day an adventure!
My students are four or five years old and are experiencing school for the first time and are open for anything!
It is my goal to be able to supply them with as many new materials, activities, and experiences as possible since their lives outside of school are limited by financial restrictions and unsafe neighborhoods. Our school is unique in it's make up, and that allows us exposure to much diversity. Our school is made up of general education, hearing impaired, emotionally impaired and cognitively impaired students from preschool through grade eight.
While I may not be able to change the environment my students go home to, I can ensure that for the seven hours they are within my class that they feel safe, challenged, and valued.
My Project
Many of our students come to school lacking the social skills necessary to succeed in a cooperative classroom. In order to encourage character development, empathy, and emotional control my children must first learn to name and understand just what emotions are.
These books, play characters and block toys will allow my children to explore and experiment with different ways we show emotions, words we use to name emotions and how we react to another child's emotions.
As we know, young children learn best through play and these materials will give them that opportunity. The Character Heroes and emotion builders will allow them to use creative play and role playing to gain a better understanding of the different ways we feel and the different ways we're expected to behave and react. Books are an excellent way for one-on-one time with your favorite adult and grow in some pre-reading skills at the same time. Who doesn't love to cuddle up with a good book?
Together we will explore and learn about social skills and emotional characteristics that we all share and need to master.
