The items I requested will serve many purposes in my classroom. I teach in a token economy-based classroom and would love to have a larger variety of rewards for my students. Items such as Squishmallows, LEGOs, and Play-Doh can be used weekly for our classroom raffles. These raffles happen once a week and students who have good behavior for the week prior get tickets in the raffle and we choose 3 students to come choose a prize. In addition to raffle rewards, I want my students to be able to choose from items that can help them when they need them as a coping skill. Items such as the sensory discs, squish balls, floor cushions, and art supplies would be used by my students as coping strategies.
My goal for this project is to give my students a welcoming environment where they know they have options of things to utilize to cope with their feelings.
Many of my students have difficulties identifying and controlling their emotions and this project would give them not only the proper items to cope with, but also incentives for when they use their strategies.
Many of my students have come from hardships in their personal lives. This program is meant to give them structure and expectations that they can live by inside and outside of school. My students are caring, kind, and funny and they deserve to feel like they have what they need to be successful.
