My students need Fatal Vison Impairment Goggles to simulate effects of impairment from drugs, alcohol and sleep deprivation to help them make safe choices.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a 9th grade Health/PE education teacher. The Health and Physical education curriculum is only required during the 9th grade year. I would like to have the opportunity to expose my diverse group of students to a simulation of what it feels like to be impaired by different levels of alcohol, marijuana and sleep deprivation. Since this will be the last time in their high school education to learn about the dangers of partaking in risking situations, a memorable lesson may be the difference in the choices they make later in life.
My Project
Students will be using the Fatal Vision Impairment Goggles to simulate effects of impairment, including reduced alertness, slowed reaction time, confusion, visual distortion, alteration of depth and distance perception, reduction of peripheral vision, poor judgment and decision making, double vision, and lack of muscular coordination. The goggles simulate different levels of Blood Alcohol Concentration. They also simulate impairment during the day and night. By simulating the effects of impairments, the student will be able to make safer choices. Your donation will provide the students with a real life experience to understanding how drugs, alcohol and lack of sleep effect the functions of the body.
The goggles will provide the students a safe environment to experience the effects of impairment.
