Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At RPHS, students don't always have the resources to release or express their emotions. This sometimes makes it hard for them to feel safe or regulated enough to learn. That's why I want them to have the materials to help them express their feelings safely and uninhibited!

These materials will help students express their feelings in a more efficient way.

This past year I learned that my students built community over SEL-based, weekly learning activities, including making a post-it note wall of their favorite songs/artists and having the first few minutes of class to simply color in coloring books.

For students who are feeling anxious or overwhelmed, fidget toys allowed them to focus more in class, putting the anxiety into the fidget toy while learning. The combination of these strategies allowed the classroom culture to flourish, reaching new heights in building not just a classroom, but a learning-based community environment.
