Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten is the first year of traditional schooling. The goal in my kindergarten classroom is for students to learn social skills and fundamental basics of knowledge that will guide them through the next 12 or more years of school. Over half of my wonderful kindergarten students are learning English. Their diverse backgrounds make our classroom a wonderful place to be!

My rambunctious kindergartners are experiencing all the new thrills of school and are excited to learn new things each day.

My students come together each day with the same goal: to learn new things and create new friendships. They are excited about learning letters, numbers, and the foundations of reading and math!

My Project

In Kindergarten, it is important that students have opportunities to build their fine motor skills. I want to give my students this opportunity during their morning work tubs. Each morning, my students complete a task in a morning work tub. These materials would all become part of those morning work tubs. Every item in this project was strategically selected because it utilizes small pieces and requires students to use fine motor reflexes to complete. The students would use the puzzle sets including the cube, animal puzzler, number board, and Tetris puzzle to challenge their mind and improve their fine motor skills. The marble game, penguin game, topple game, and ball game will be used with a partner or small group. Each of these games requires students to manipulate small pieces and think about choices in order to win the game. The dot markers and shape stencils allow students to create pieces of art and improve their grasp. Every item in this project was strategically selected because it utilizes small pieces and requires students to use fine motor reflexes to complete.

With the development of these skills, my students are able to complete important tasks such as writing, feeding oneself, tying shoes, buttoning and zippering.

Without the ability to complete these everyday tasks, a child's self-esteem can suffer, their academic performance is compromised and their play options are very limited. Please help bring these fine motor materials to our morning tubs!
