Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school only has about 250 students divided between 10 classes. Many of these students stay together from year to year, forming a family-like feel with each other. Our students value their time at school and look to their teachers and friends for the support they may be lacking in other areas of their life.
Being able to control our emotions and stress levels is crucial to our success.
I am hoping to be able to give my students some tools to be able to do so.
My Project
The students I am working with have experienced Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which have resulted in their brains developing differently. They react to stressful situations different than their peers. When they have heightened levels of cortisol in their bodies, learning becomes difficult.
Along with me teaching them how to use them appropriately, these tools will help my students to feel regulated.
We will also be able to use picture books to learn about the zones of regulation. These items will serve as tools for my students when they are feeling dis-regulated to help them to refocus and be ready to learn.
More than half of students from low‑income households
