Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they come to school each day excited and ready to learn.
My students are creative, caring, and motivated.
They enjoy playing with friends, helping out in the classroom, giving lots and lots of hugs, and most importantly learning. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and all of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Regardless of the obstacles they face, I spend each day ensuring that they have the best educational experience possible. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My students need headphones to help support their literacy development. Each day, students participate in in an Intervention Block where all of them are actively participating in Lexia Core 5. This program allows students to use shared iPads to participate in an individualized technology program that focuses on students' literary skills at their independent level. Through this program, students are able to work on skills that match their level of understanding. Having headphones during their technology block will allow my students to build their focus and stamina, positively contributing to their literacy development. Being able to focus on their own iPads without the distraction of programs on their classmates' tablets will allow students to use their intervention time more productively, and meet their weekly needs of the literacy program. Overall, headphones will lead to more productivity and literacy development in the classroom, something that is essential for all kindergarten learners!
