Hi, I am a third grade teacher and I currently have 28 students in my classroom in a very low income neighborhood. My students just love to explore, experiment, and use manipulatives. They are very active children and love to be active learners. We are currently working on measurement of all kinds. I am in the process of setting up centers throughout the classroom where students can practice measuring weight, length (perimeter), liquids, and time. Also, I want students to notice that even tiny things have shapes and sides to measure. They will be able to experience this through the use of microscopes. I can just imagine their reactions to what they will discover when they look into the microscopes. You should have seen their reactions to the carnivorous plants and cactus plants displayed in our room. There are so many things these children have never seen or done. I am always seeking ways to give them these new ways of discovery. They get so excited, sometimes too excited. I have purchased many sets of materials throughout the years with my own personal finances. However, there are a few types of materials that I currently am unable to purchase that would make learning more fun and real life. Some of these items include individual sets of three dimensional shapes, microscopes, and a balance gram scale. Also, because of excessive usage over the years, our classroom clocks are missing their hands. There are not enough two handed clocks for all 28 students to get practice using a traditional clock, especially with all of the digital clocks around these days. Any assistance which you could provide would be greatly appreciated and definitely used for the education of some very well-deserving children, which in turn will produce students with higher mastery and understanding of skills needed to become the future productive citizens of our society. Thank you in advance for your support of our much deserving public school students.
