"I can do it!" is an everyday quote in my classroom. Even when students are challenged they know that they can find the support they need in my class. As a special education teacher, my students have a wide variety of abilities and needs. From the moment they walk through the door, I focus on growth and positivity. By ensuring that my students have a productive day, I am able to guide their school experience and make it a good one.
My Project
These books will help my students understand the emotions that they feel and identify with others that they may otherwise not understand. By addressing social issues like bullying, sharing, and conversation, I hope to create a class of caring and considerate citizens of our society.
A large portion of my student population has been diagnosed with Autism and would benefit greatly from the social instruction offered through these books.
Through sharing the joy of reading, students will be invited to think deeply about their feelings and social issues they come in contact with. With a variety of books to address a variety of social-emotional issues, students will be provided the opportunity to learn social skills in a way that is exciting and interesting to them.
