Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of my students come to school hungry in the morning. Since the pandemic, our second chance breakfast is no longer served during recess time. If students don't eat breakfast or make it to school on time for breakfast in the cafeteria, they don't eat until lunchtime. This causes them to feel grumpy or not feel well. This can cause struggles with academics and behavior. I know how important it is for them to have food in order to help them focus and learn. I've purchased my own food/snacks but it has been a lot to maintain.
I would love to give my students a snack station.
My class knows we are a family and our classroom is our 2nd home. I would love to be able to have food and snacks available for them. I would use the shelving unit to store everything and be my snack station and have the dry food dispensers with cereal, goldfish, and other snacks. The disposable cups and ziplocks would be for students to use to store their snacks. I would add the individually wrapped snacks into the mason jars.
This snack station would be so much more convenient because we would have access to it in our classroom. Usually, I'd send them to the nurse. It is time-consuming to have them walk to the nurse, get a snack, and return. It would be more convenient for them to have it in the classroom so it also won't take away from their learning and classroom instruction. Sometimes, there are no more snacks available for them. I want to be able to provide my class with food and feed their learning.
