This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
If you had an hour everyday to read, would you want someone to give you a book because that is all they had, or would you want to choose from highly recommended novels? Between my passion for teaching Reading and great books, the students entering my Reading class will leave successful readers.
My students have very low level reading scores in a striving school.
Some love to read and need good books to continue the fire, and others need good books to spark the love of reading. With the right books, I won't be able to get them to do anything but read. I can help them enjoy reading which in return will help them become successful students across the curriculum.
My Project
With the Teen Reads books I selected, my students will have a great variety of books to choose from for independent reading and group projects. The better the selections, the more they will read. In order to promote reading school wide, my classes will create posters, fliers and perform skits to interest other students in reading that book. In addition, they will practice writing skills in a journal and have lively group discussions in Literature Circles.
The books will promote reading in my students and the projects they do with those books will inspire other students throughout the school to read.
Changing the reading habits of our students will help turn our striving school into the high achieving establishment these kids deserve. It will be the beginning of their success.
