Feeding Minds and Stomachs Through Books and Snacks
Help me give my students an opportunity to explore their imaginations through books and snacks for when students are hungry or need an afternoon snack during after-school tutorials.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project is designed to support students both academically and physically by creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment. The primary focus is on encouraging students to read more by providing access to a variety of age-appropriate and culturally relevant books. Reading helps improve literacy, critical thinking, and comprehension skills, which are essential for academic success.
Additionally, the project includes providing nutritious snacks to students who may be hungry during the school day or while attending after-school tutorials.
Hunger can significantly affect a child's ability to focus, retain information, and stay motivated. By addressing both educational and nutritional needs, this project ensures that students are better equipped to succeed in the classroom. It also fosters a safe and supportive space where they can develop a love for reading and feel cared for, which positively impacts their overall well-being and academic performance. This holistic approach contributes to improved student outcomes and a stronger classroom community.
