Feeding Growing Kids Healthy Meals

Help me give my students and school a Commercial Grade Sink and Faucet. We cannot afford to continually purchase disposable plates and utensils, we also strive to stay green, recycle or re-use. We feed 170 hungry kiddos daily!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We live in a culture-rich, money-poor community where the traditional lifestyle has been preserved for hundreds of years. The three cultures (Spanish, Native American and Anglo) that inhabit Taos have all coexisted peacefully for many generations. This is a small public charter school that serves a low-income population of diverse cultures. We rely on fundraisers as a means to enhance students' learning experience and help them grow as contributing members of our small town. Most of our student's qualify for free or reduced lunch based on their family's income. Many times the school lunch is the only healthy meal they will have all day. This year, after much effort, we were able to bring an organic, locally grown, farmed and prepared lunch program to our school! Our student's are now able to enjoy the best food available while also supporting our local family farms.

My Project

Our school has finally achieved a 5 year goal to bring healthy, organic, locally sourced food to our population of students. Most of our students receive free or reduced lunch due to family income and for many it is their only healthy meal that day. To cut down on cost, waste and remain as "green" as possible we really need a Commercial Grade Sink and Faucet. If we are able to purchase this equipment we will be able to wash our own set of cutlery and plates. Currently we are purchasing paper plates and plastic utensils. We desperately need our school lunch program to succeed for the good of our students but also as a means for many local farmers to continue to make a living in our town.
