Games Club is continuing to thrive with 20-30 students regularly in attendance. It is currently one of a few after school club offerings available at my school, especially for 6th grade students who have far fewer sports options. Students look forward to attending and invite new friends to join. Students of all grade levels attend so it gives students time to develop or maintain friendships with students in other grades. I also build connections with students who I haven’t had as students and to continue connecting with my past students who have moved to 7th and 8th grade.
This provides a very supportive and accessible place for students to socialize and build community.
It is cold outside these days and students are left with few places to go to socialize after school. Their parents are often not at home to supervise so they aren’t allowed to visit each other. This provides them with a safe, indoor location to hang out and be themselves. They are still kids and need a place where they can safely interact with one another.
The snacks are essential as students are with me for 2 or more hours before they ride the bus home. They are ravenous and trust that these snacks will be devoured! Students are starving by the end of the day and many don't have the support needed to bring their own snacks.
I was most recently visited by 2 students who were regular attendees of Games Club before they moved to high school. They came by to see me and it was so great to see how far they’ve come and how much they’ve grown. Thank you so much for supporting this opportunity to connect with so many amazing young people.
