Feed Us Healthy Snacks - Feed USA 2011-12

My students need healthy snacks, like Balance Bars, 100 calorie packs, and granola bars, to encourage good eating habits in the morning.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Sumida's classroom raised $534

My Students

According to a 2002 study, 28.5% of children entering kindergarten in Hawaii were obese. Doctors say that the figure has only gotten worse in recent years. Help us educate our elementary students in healthy eating habits.

I am a teacher librarian at an elementary school that services many Navy and Army families in Hawaii.

The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our Preschool-6th grade campus. About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years. Health and wellness is a school-wide initiative that is supported by the school's teachers and a healthy snacks directive by the administration.

My Project

I'd like to provide healthy snacks to the students as an alternative to the junk food they bring for breakfast or morning snack. In addition, during the school news broadcast, a healthy treat will be offered as an incentive to students who correctly answer health and wellness questions. These questions will focus on having a healthy diet and nutritious food choices. Last year I utilized Donors Choose donations to provide snacks for my students and I'd like to continue this worthwhile project this school year.

These snacks are needed to show the students that healthy food can taste good too.

The snacks will better nourish the students so they can concentrate on their classwork. It will also serve as a reward to students who are able to provide the right answers to questions on proper eating habits.
