Our school serves school students grades 7 through 12 and is located one block from City Hall. Students live in many areas of the city. For the most at-risk students, those with habitual truancy, significant behavior issues, and histories of suspension and expulsion, the goal is to change behavior so that these students will stay in school and earn enough credits to graduate.
This year we are creating a series of classes for "life skills" where students can choose projects & activities that include history, science, literacy and art! Grant writing helps students be clear in the descriptions of what they want for a healthy choices in the classroom.
Our students come from all over the city. Many of them do not have healthy snacks but come eating red chips for breakfast. We are trying to change teens to have healthy eating habits. The refrigerator in class will be able to store food for all the the students everyday.
