This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my Crafts and Ceramics I and II classes come from a low socioeconomic and underprivileged environment. The majority of my classes are made up of tenth to twelfth grade, male and female students of African American and Hispanic descent. Living in the city environment that surrounds them, students channel all of their demographics into the art they create in my classes.

My students come to school each day knowing they get a chance to relieve the stresses and triumphs they are faced within their home lives.

Even before entering my classroom, students are eager, excited, and ready to get creative! Many come during their lunch to continue working on projects and some even stay after school!

My Project

Many students come to my room to eat their lunch instead of sitting in the crowded cafeteria. They often complain that the lunches they serve are not warm or filling. Students that choose to bring a lunch to school are often faced with a room temperature meal or snack with no where to keep it cold or to warm it up before eating.

Having a fridge, microwave and toaster oven will allow my students to enjoy a hot lunch every day.

Since the start of the school year, students continue to ask me to heat up the food they bring in. The only microwave we have is in the teacher's lounge where student use is off limits. Having these appliances in my class will allow my students to enjoy a warm lunch in a quiet non crowded room.
